I'm a bookbinder. That's one of the many hats I wear in my creative life. I love to construct and craft handmade journals. I probably make some kind of handmade book two or three times a week. If my hands see paper, they want to fold, stitch, and bind it into a book. I really can't help myself. So after almost 10 years of making handmade books, I've found the tools that I love and the ones I just can't live without. Of course I own TONS of other supplies, materials and tools that I use, but I thought I'd share the ones you might find in my bag if the zombie apocalypse started today!! :-) What's In My Kit?First of all, let me just say that this is not the kind of post where I tell you all the possibilities out there. I'm going to give you the basics, the bare minimum, the quick-down-and-dirty. So, let's just establish here and now that I know there are other things that you can use for each of the tools I'm going to share!
CHECK!! And of course there's some kind of paper necessary for making books, but that's for another blog post. For now, let's just say paper is readily available and move on to the other goodies in my kit. Today I share a beautiful interview I conducted with author, speaker, and coach, Omkari Williams. This is a special episode in the H2AJ series because Omkari is the first non-art journaler I've interviewed, but the work she does in the world is SOOOOO important for those of us who do journal and share our stories through words and/or images. If you are wanting to share your stories more, listen in. If you are afraid of sharing your stories, listen in. If you think your stories don't matter, listen in. No matter what, LISTEN IN... The Interview:Hello Beautiful Creative People!!
Welcome to Day 3 of the StencilGirl and ColourCraft Blog Hop!! I'm feeling mighty lucky to have been sent a set of Brushos and a few metallic paints from the folks at ColourCraft, and of course I've got my library of stencils from StencilGirl on hand. I've seen others using Brusho powders on YouTube and Instagram, so I was familiar with how they work and the one word I could think of to describe them was SERENDIPITY!! Which happens to be one of my favorite words :-). So of course I knew immediately I'd be making some sort of journal for this project. I started with loose sheets of mixed media paper, gathered a few stencils, and started playing. The stencils I ended up using for the journal were: Pattern Play by Carolyn Dube Private Collection 15.3 by Mary Beth Shaw Private Collection 14.5 by Mary Beth Shaw Here's my process... Summer always makes me think of my time as a K-12 teacher. It's a time when the kiddos are at home and you're likely looking for activities to keep them engaged and creative. In this post I share two cool and simple books you can do with kids of all ages (including the adult kids in your life). The StencilGirl Creative Team blog hop is the perfect inspiration for summer projects. And it's the perfect time to try one of the newest stencils in the StencilGirl collection -- Mermaids!!!
