Mermaid Madness Summer Book Ideas

Summer always makes me think of my time as a K-12 teacher. It's a time when the kiddos are at home and you're likely looking for activities to keep them engaged and creative. In this post I share two cool and simple books you can do with kids of all ages (including the adult kids in your life).  The StencilGirl Creative Team blog hop is the perfect inspiration for summer projects. And it's the perfect time to try one of the newest stencils in the StencilGirl collection -- Mermaids!!!
I made two books using the Love Mermaid by Cathy Nichols.

For this first book, I took one stencil and created a flip book. I love flip books because they are interactive and somewhat mesmerizing. The key to making this book is to use paper that will flip easily. My book has really thick Bristol paper (not the best choice for this), so if I can make it on that paper, you should be find with something like printer paper or it's equivalent.

The second book is a simple three-hole pamphlet stitch. The cover was made with watercolor markers and gel pens.  Sometimes the simplest element can make the entire book.

Kids will love either of those, but will really get excited if they can both.

The journal below is a great book to make for kids who need to journal or write a book report on mermaids!!!

Awesome, Kiala!! Once again I am taken back by another idea on what these beautiful mermaid stencils have to offer in the variations of creativity. The different books are wonderful. I loved slowing down the flipbook and seeing a mermaid swim across the pages. I also love the cute cover created for a journal. I might be partial to the fun of the flipbook. I, too, was mesmerized by the fun and visual provided. These mermaids flowing into my screen today from so many instructors/artists have been very insightful about the limitless possibilities and just how much one item can provide if you dream big mermaid dreams. Thank you for sharing your fun creations with the gorgeous StencilGirl mermaid. Young or old.. we all can't help but love mermaids! Beautiful, Kiala!!
