Okay beautiful creative people!!! We made it to the end of this blog hop!!! Crazy right? The month has flown by and I'm thrilled at how much art journaling I've been able to do. It's kinda mind boggling. It's also the last day to get the December Mini Class for free if you sign up for the year long Journey Within, so go sign up and have a whole extra month of videos, tutorials, and inspiration. Today's final spread was a great one to end with because I got to spend time doodling and coloring and meditating on the year to come. Plus, it's from a lovely artist that I've been following since I started following artists on social media. TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from iHanna![]() “I love to hand paint repeating patterns in my art journal, especially dots. Around my studio my desk is polka dotted, and quite a few of the pages in my art journal have had their fair share of dots this year. If you have the time before the year ends, please join Kiala and me and make a page with polka dots. Big, small, one color or all the colors on your palette – just dive into it. Make it simple and fun, maybe the last page of the year… Have fun with all the dots you can dream up and paint!" Here's my page spread... This was so much fun. This page and this entire blog hop. If you want to see what Hanna made for this challenge, check here out HERE.

As an art journaler I'm always looking for ways to grow and push myself artistically. One of the areas that I know I can develop more is collage. So earlier this year I took an online class with altered book artist, Virginia Simpson-Magruder. She taught us how to establish a daily creative practice using collage. I learned so much about the ends and outs of collage and even started a small collaged journal. So when I thought about bringing guest teachers on board, I knew immediately that I would ask Virginia to join us. She has an amazing daily creative practice and her style of teaching is wonderfully fresh and authentic. Here's the challenge Virginia gave me: TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from Virginia Simpson-Magruder![]() I use images of pathways when I am journaling or working in my altered books. In fact I created an entire altered book course called "Altered Book Portals" around using portals -- windows, doorways, gates, paths, stairs -- as a way to see your world, your interests, and your dreams. Paths have always beckoned to me -- whether it be a woodland path, a deer trail meandering through the trees, a freshly mown swath of grass, a bricked garden path, or stone pavers around the corner of a house. Paths speak of new beginnings, old familiar routes, unexplored territories and well-traveled roads. The challenge is to create a path through one or several page spreads in your journal and use the path as a journal prompt:
Here's what I did: How can you use a pathway in your next art journal page? Or maybe you've used them in earlier art journal pages. Either way, let's see how pathways show up in your art journal.

We call these resolutions. I'm not a fan of resolutions, so I started setting intentions about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. When I set an intention, it's less specific and more about how I want to feel at the end of the next year. It's more about being on a journey to know myself better. So when Lisa McLoughlin gave me this amazing challenge, I was super excited to create this page and start thinking about what my intentions are for 2016. I had fun and really dug deep on this one. I also created with Lisa's art as my guiding inspiration. Here's the challenge she gave me: TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from Lisa McLoughlin![]() I invite you to work with the Plant Ally Card Bugle which is all about setting Intentions. Read the description on the back of the card with 2016 in mind. On a piece of paper I invite you to write all the intentions and inspirations you have for 2016 (a kind of riff and flow of consciousness). Cut the piece of paper into shapes (possibly a flower or plant ) and use it as a collage on your art journal page. Add any colour and embellishments. Here's the card Lisa pulled for me: Here's my page... I found it lovely that Lisa's day brought me to the center of one half of my Dos-a-Dos art journal. I loved having lots of room to play. What a treat. And what you can't see in the photo is that I started with a book page that had my intentions written on it, then I painted over it and cut it into the heart shapes. So the hearts are my intentions. I'm thrilled with this page and the words around the edge are from a bag I own that has a quote on it by Mary Anne Radmacher. The quotes reads... Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is. Have you started setting intentions for the year? What are you waiting for? Use Lisa's challenge to get you started.
Okay, we only have two more days of challenges left. I'll see you back here on the 28th. Until then, make sure to check out all the teachers in the blog hop. Okay, so here we are 3 days before Christmas in the U.S. and I haven't purchased one item to cook for the "big" day. It's okay though because this year, it's just me and Damon so we are keeping it light and easy. I do have the menu planned though. Here's what I'm planning:
So when Yuko Miki gave me my art journal challenge, I was thrilled. I've been taking a sketching class with Andrea Gomoll (her challenge was on day 9) and while I'm still new to sketching, I thought this was a chance to see what I've learned so far. TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from Yuko Miki![]() The challenge -- draw your favorite holiday or winter foods in any medium you choose. Sounds simple enough, huh? Well, it took me a lot longer than I thought. First, it took me forever to narrow down my favorites -- I have so many. I knew immediately that I was going to sketch and use watercolor, so that was easy. Then, the drawing. WHEW -- that took me some time too and lots and lots and lots of erasing. But the process was amazing. I realized that I've learned a lot from Andrea's class even in this short amount of time I've been in it. That felt good to reinforce my learning with a bit of practice. Let's face it, we can't get better at anything if we don't practice. Here's my page: That was fun.
Now "show" me your favorite holiday foods. I might need to add to my list. Okay, we are in the final stretch, so make sure to check out all the teachers in the blog hop.
