I love the number 19. I'm not sure if it is lucky or not, but it's been "my number" since 1996 and well, I'm pretty stuck on it.
Of all the things I've done and accomplished in my life, I'm most proud that I am an auntie-mama to my nephew Treavor.
I met my husband Damon in 1987 (you do the math) when we were both in high school and we've been best friends since. (There's a much longer story here, but that's for another time.)
My birthday is January 4th and I'm a Capricorn through and through. YES!! Pretty much everything you've heard about Cappies -- that's me. In fact, I'm a DOUBLE CAPRICORN -- my sun sign and my moon sign are both Capricorn. Let's just say...it's intense up in here.
I am totally obsessed with intuitive guidance systems -- meditation, astrology, numerology, tarot, oracle cards, dowsing, and sacred geometry (mandalas is just one aspect I love).
I'm a homebody and I have severe wanderlust. I love to travel and go to the beach. I especially love the Gulf of Mexico and finding labyrinths in unexpected places.
I drink green smoothies at least 6 out of 7 mornings (unless I'm fasting).
I could eat homemade soup every-single-day of my life and be very happy. My favorites are lentil soup, seafood gumbo, and taco soup.
I've been collecting fine writing instruments since I was 15. My collection includes mostly fountain pens, ACME rollerballs, and a few eclectic finds from estate sales. My favorite fountain pen brands are Lamy Safari and Franklin-Christoph.
Damon and I haven't owned a television since 2007, but we watch lots of movies and a few shows on Hulu.com, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Our favorites are: Handmaid's Tale, Black Mirror, and NCIS.
I've seen the Matrix at least 18 times and can't wait to watch it again. Yup, Trinity is my favorite character. I'm also a huge fan of Carrie Ann Moss as a real person :-).
I'm a bit of a tea snob. I drink tea everyday. My favorite brands are Numi Tea and Harney & Son's. I'm also rather partial to Yogi Brand because of the lovely quotes on the tags. I'm also on a path to learn about herbs as medicine and for healing and transformation.
I received a hand written thank you note from poet Nikki Giovanni after gifting her a copy of Generations Literary Journal. Oh, and I got to meet her in person and HUG her -- and have her workshop one of my poems in a small group workshop!!!!!!!!! YES -- Nikki Giovanni read one of my work-in-progress poems. I'm pretty sure that's the Holy Grail for most poets.
From 2000 to 2005, I coached and mentored a girls' step team at Blanche Ely High School. I'm still in touch with many of the young ladies today. Check out one of my mentees -- Makeda Cyrus -- following her bliss and living her best life.
In 2008, Damon and I sold 90% of our "stuff" and moved from Florida to California so that I could follow my long time dream of getting an MFA in Creative Writing. I graduated top of my class and delivered the graduation speech. WATCH IT HERE.
I discovered Book Arts while at Mills College where I studied under, and apprenticed with, Internationally known, Julie Chen of Flying Fish Press.
I love all of the X-Men movies and cartoons (really anything in the Marvel Universe). Rogue was my favorite when I was in high school. In college it was Storm, then Gambit. Now, I'm digging Mystique.
I'm known to spontaneously break out with a song & dance. Really, does no one else hear that music????
I'm not a fan of running, but I love to skip! Have you every tried skipping without smiling? It can't be done. Go outside and try it.
