I recently took an online class called Drawing Interlacing & Interlocking Shapes taught by Certified Zentangle Teacher, Sadelle Wiltshire. I loved every second of the class and even made a few wonderful interlocking images.
One of the things I struggled with was creating straight lines. My hand isn't steady enough yet to make the perfectly straight lines I'd like to make. So here's what I did...

The first time I took a formal class in traditional bookbinding, it was a class on using letterpress in hand bound books. The teacher, Kathleen Walkup, stood in front of the class with an old, hardcover book in one hand, and a box cutter in the other.
I've been sitting on this WONDERFUL NEWS for a little over a month now and I'm excited to finally share it with you all!! I have been selected as a member of the 2017 - 2018 StencilGirl Creative Team!!!!!! WHAAAATTTT???? I know!!!! It's kinda crazy. I've been sharing and talking about StencilGirl products since 2013 when I did the Book-in-a-Day Challenge, now, things feel like they have come full circle. Not only do I get to share my love for a female owned business, but I get to be in community with the amazing creatives who make up the larger StencilGirl family. Wanna meet the other members of the team? Head over to the StencilGirl blog. What does all of this mean?It means I'll be sharing my creative journey with you as I create demos, tutorials, and projects using the fabulous StencilGirl stencils. In other words, more handmade journals and fun artsy things to share. It also means I get to finally use the more than 100 StencilGirl Stencils that I already own and a few new designs as they are released. It means more giveaways, artsy meet-ups, blog posts, and YouTube videos. Basically, it means more creative playtime. Speaking of GiveawaysEveryday I wake up feeling passionate about one thing -- becoming better. Some days that means becoming a better artist, some days it means becoming a better daughter, wife, or friend, but always, I have a burning desire, not only to become better at being me, but to help others do the same. I really do want to live in a world where those around me (friends, family, clients, community members, my blog readers...) feel that they have the tools they need to become better. I'm pretty sure this is how we change the world -- by starting with ourselves. The Journey WithinI can't believe it's finally happening. This is the class I've been waiting on for a few years. I don't typically share my written journaling practice with the world because it has always felt so sacred and so personal. But I've been keeping a written journal since I was a teenager. I have more than 100 journals in my possession filled with my thoughts and musings, over the last three decades. It's fun to go back and flip through them from time to time to see how much I've grown and changed, and in what ways I've stayed the same. I journal every single day -- without fail -- even when I don't feel well or when I'm traveling or when life is heavy (or maybe especially when life is heavy), I pen something in my journal. Sometimes it's just a sentence, sometimes it's pages and pages. Journaling is my maintenance program for living a healthy, happy, and well-balanced life. So this course is near and dear to my heart, which is why I invited some pretty special folks along for the journey. And I'm inviting you along, too. Journaling can be personal and still be done with others. It can be sacred and simultaneously fun and experimental. People Always Ask Me... |
