Okay, we are back to blog hopping and today I take on a challenge from Julie Baker of Creatively Onward. Every Monday, Julies gives a Monday Mission as a way to spark your creativity. Her missions can range from the meditative to the imaginative. Today, I get to share my take on a pretty imaginative prompt. Check it out here: TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from Julie BakerJulie asks me to complete her Monday Mission -- Who would you let ride in your private spaceship? Where would you go? Of course I'm letting my amazing husband, Damon, ride with me in my spaceship and he is fascinated by the moon so I think that's where we will go. Here's my take on the mission: Make sure to check out all the teachers any time.

Living in Georgia for the last year has been a very interesting and necessary experience, but I miss Oakland, CA and the amazing people I was in community with there. From poets and novelists to tarot readers and artists, I was constantly surrounded by people who understand what the life of a creative can look like. They understand when you say you "need" to paint or write for the entire weekend. They don't judge you when you've got paint on nearly every pair of jeans you own. It was great to be surrounded by that level of acceptance. Georgia is different. But I found an amazing woman to spend time with here and that has made all the difference in this temporary relocation. Tiare Smith is one of those people that when you meet her, she's EXACTLY the same as when you saw her on Periscope or Ustream or in a video from an online class. Her energy and laughter is the same. She's just as wonderful off camera as she is on and the art...the art is 1000 times more amazing in person than when you're seeing it on Instagram. So when I was making my dream team list of instructors for The Journey Within 2016, Tiare's name was on the list for sure. Her artistic style is so distinct and unique that you can't help but be drawn to it. She really hones her craft everyday in an effort to bring joy to those in her community. I know that having her as a part of the course is going to be transformational. Of course when it came time for her to give me a challenge, I knew she was going to push me out of my comfort zone. And she did!! TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- from Tiare Smith The challenge started with me going back into an online class I took with Tiare called Splatter, Splotch, and Splash. She challenged me to get creative and make a fall/winter tree or tree scene using the Splotch Art Technique she teaches in that class. Here's my page. What do you think? Are you playing along? Make sure to check out all the teachers any time.

The computer always felt like the middle man and I never felt like I could truly connect to anyone with a computer sitting between us. Then I started to find individuals inside of those communities who I really gelled with and my view of what was possible shifted. I started to make connections online that eventually moved offline. That's when the real magic happens. Cindy is one of those people that is magical in my life. She's such a wonderful artist, brainstorming buddy, and laughing partner. And it was an amazing treat to meet her in person this year. To finally get to hug someone you've been in conversation with for a year is something rather special. I got to touch her art journals and see her work up close and personal, and then spend the day talking and chatting about pens and paper and creative business ideas. It was POWERFUL!! So of course when I was planning for The Journey Within, it was a no brainer -- I had to invite Cindy to join me. And thank goodness she said YES!!! Her art journaling is going to knock your socks off and help you see how to go from the dark places we sometimes find ourselves in, to the other side where there is lots of light (and some pink and turquoise too :-). For the blog hop challenge, Cindy had me play along with one of her fast forward videos. Here's what she said... TODAY'S CHALLENGE -- From Cindy Gilstrap"I believe it is so important to make time for creativity. So for this challenge watch my Fast Forward Art Play #3 from my blog post -- Just Create. Pick two techniques that I show and use in any way you want. Focus your page around the word Journey to kick off this wonderful Journey Within." The two techniques I selected were: 1. Starting with gesso and napkins 2. Stenciling Here's what I made... Are you playing along? Let me know. Find me on Instagram (@kialagives) and tag me. Use the hashtag #journeywithin2016 so I can see your lovely work.
