It was such a pleasure and an honor to finally "meet" and chat with one of the women I admire and adore in the art journaling community. For a few years now I've been watching and learning from Hali Karla on the sidelines. Then at the end of last year I stepped out of my comfort zone and invited Hali to be a guest teaching artist in The Journey Within e-course. When she said YES I think I might have cried tears of joy! Seriously, I'm a sap when it comes to women empowering and supporting one another. So it stands to reason that when she invited me to be a guest on the Holistic Creative Circle Series, I said YES. After you watch the video, be sure to connect with Hali at the links below. Here's our chat... Okay. Whatdaya think? What resonated with you? Did you catch the three fountain pens at the end? I'd love to hear your thoughts and answer any questions you've got. Let's dialogue, share, and support each other in the creative process.
Here are a few links to things we mentioned: The classes I'm taking with Hali are Making Art Medicine and Spectrum 2016 Hali's blog and website Hali on Instagram Me on Instagram Mills College MFA Program Book Artist Julie Chen The three fountain pens -- Pilot Vanishing Point, Kara's Kustoms, and Pilot Metropolitan Be sure to stay tuned to the blog and newsletter because Hali and I will be swapping seats in a few weeks when I interview her for the How To Art Journal Series. And if you want to get a taste of what it's like to learn from Hali, her lesson goes live in The Journey Within TODAY. Be sure to grab your seat and get started.

Kiala! You are such a joy and I couldn't be happier for our connection. I have to tell you - I got one of those Pilot Metropolitan's after our chat... and I am in love with writing again. :) I may have to order that white one, too. Looking forward to our How To Art Journal Interview. Big hugs! xo~h

Hali!! OMG So happy to hear that you treated yourself to a Pilot Metropolitan. It's a great pen! And you have a beautiful little pen and stationary store in your area. The owner is super cool, helpful, and knowledgeable. Origami Ink -- one of my favs.

Kiala! I am an almost 68 year old female living in a "wish I had" world. I am a poor version of a Leo...not leadership stuff at all. Everybody knows more and better than me. I am the first Kiwi in our family as the result of post war opportunities my parents took advantage of and I have never known my aunts, grandparents or cousins. In the late nineties our son married in the UK which was the first time I had visited England and Wales...and the first time I met a real live Aunty and Uncle and also the first time my poor old husband had seen me blubber like a baby when it came time to leave. Enough rambling! I have just watched the interview and I had tears in my eyes hearing you talk about your family. I am a crafty creative. I never impressed at school with my art or my writing but I enjoyed both enormously. And now here I am in the final quadrant of my life living with regrets. I must thank you and your interviewer for unleashing more of a can do attitude within my soul. I am going to stop looking at blogs and wishing I could do and start collating something of my past regrets. It might be a good thing for my children and grandchildren as well as a way for me to express my inner feelings. Thank you!
