Embrace Your Art

Kiala Givehand Yearly Art Challenge Blog Post
Hey lovelies!!
You know how much I love a year long challenge, right? But I just couldn't manage one this year with so many other amazing things happening in my businesses. But I'm always eager to support and encourage other artists who are doing these kinds of challenges.

I have several artsy pals who have challenged themselves with a weekly (or daily) art challenge for 2016. One of my favorite artistic gal pals -- Tiare Smith -- has challenged herself to create a journal page each week using a round page. CHECK OUT THE CHALLENGE HERE. Here's how she describes the challenge:
Embrace YOUR Art 2016 is a year long workshop to create a journal all about YOU!  You’ll get a prompt each week and end the year with a complete journal about YOU!  SPECIAL TWIST: We are creating in the round.  YES!  We are putting our art on round pages.  Woohoo! (round pages are optional)
What makes Tiare's challenge so special is that she's invited her community to join in with her by providing tutorials, prompts, and a Facebook community. It's a lovely way to build community around art.

She's also invited a few of her friends a various times to submit an art tutorial and my turn is today.

I'm sharing a bit of a tutorial that I hope will inspire you to grab your art supplies and JAM with us.

PROMPT: If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
SUPPLY TO USE: Stars

Here are a few photos of my finished page and the supplies I used:

Let me know if you decide to make your page. I'd love to see it. Post a comment below and tell me where I can see your lovely version of this challenge. And if you want more prompts and tutorials, be sure to join Tiare's Classy Crew.

Hello Kiala,

I am one of Tiare's 'Jammers' so that's how I found your website.
I really liked your tutorial. I liked it so much that I tried it on my (circular) page. I have a few aqua promarkers, but never used them until now and they worked very nice. I don't have sprays, most of the time I replace that with ecoline, but this time I used (children) blowmarkers for the bookpaper and it worked good for me.
As I don't post pictures on FB I put the linkt to my page under website.
The text on the stars is in Dutch, but if I had a million dollars, my husband could stop working, we could start with the building of our house in the Azores (I live in Belgium now), I would also buy houses for my children and travel.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial.
Greetings from Jolande

I saw this tutorial and like all the others of yours I loved it. Just a comment as I live in the Uk. For ages now I have seen references to freezer paper for craft work. As I had never heard of it I tried google. Was told it was called grease proof over here. So I dug out my grease proof which for food does a similar thing but not the same as no shiny plastic surface. Looking at suppliers over here only to find craft suppliers charging silly money. For any one interested in the UK found some on Amazon for £5 , half the price. Still sounds a lot to me for a roll of kitchen paper but it only seems available on line here.

Thank you so much for your lesson for the JAM Embrace your Art page. I am an Embracer and I really enjoyed your input for this week. Loved your technique, your tips and one you didn't mention but I quickly picked up was your "squeeze bottle of Gesso". Loved it. I immediately put you on hold and went and filled a bottle I could squeeze. Had a great time Very inspiring. Thank you.
