Title: The Unearthing Structure: Artist's Portfolio Dimensions: 8 1/2 x 7 (closed) 18 1/2 x 23 (opened) Video of my process. Okay so if you've been paying close attention, you've heard me mention several people multiple times. Effy Wild is one of those folks. I adore her artwork and her sense of community, so I'm always eager to fellowship with her when I can create space. I'm already taking two classes with her and so when she started her Inner Excavate Along, I was most definitely trying to get in on that. In this week's video I talk about the serendipitous way that I realized I already owned the book Inner Excavation by Liz Lamoreux and how I took that as a sign to go ahead and excavate along with Effy. The first chapter of Inner Excavation is an "invitation to begin" and after reading Lamoreux's story about she and her husband moving across the country from friends and family, I was immediately hooked. My husband and I did the exact same thing. From Florida to California. Then there is one line in the first chapter that reads, "capture the simple moments of your life" and so I did. I spent one day taking pictures that capture the simple moments of my life. Because I had thought about this book the day before, I was able to wake up and immediately begin taking photos. Because the first photo excursion was called "Scenes From This Day," I thought it was fitting to combine the photos with the writing activity from the chapter, and that's how I came up with the photos and the one line poems that each start with the words, "I am..." This 27th book became one of my favorites rather quickly. Even though I had a lot of issues with my printer, I loved the results. Then, of course, if you have watched the video, you know that I struggled with the measurements for this book and had to do some crafty and creative correcting.
All-in-all, I'm happy with the way it turned out. I'm looking forward to what next week brings. Stay tuned! If you're watching the videos, I'm honored! If you're making the books, I'm intrigued, so please share here or on the Giving Hands Creative Community site.
