BLOG HOP DETOUR

12/7/2013

Today we had to take a bit of a detour back here to my site, but I'm happy to say that you won't miss out on anything. You'll still get an amazing visit to Stephanie Ackerman's blog on the 10th, so mark your calendar for that -- it's the same day as the BIG GIVEAWAY!!!

Until then, here is a photo walk-through of a canvas I created using the Mixed Media Inspiration Deck™. I was inspired by Carolyn Dube's re-visit to a canvas she started a while ago and used the MMID to add to this week.

I started this canvas back in February or March of this year with some stamped tissue paper and Dylusions spray inks, then I never came back to it. Today I used the MMID to "finish" it.
Picture
This was my starting canvas.
Picture
I dealt myself 12 cards.
Picture
Picture
Doodling with a white POSCA pen.
Picture
Picture
A tag from Chic Tags (chictags.com).
Picture
Picture
Musical notes washi tape.
Picture
Picture
This was my first time using
Viva Precious Metals Effect Paint.
I LOVE it. It dries quickly,
and goes on nicely with a little water for movement.
The color is both vibrant and shimmery.
Picture
Picture
Pink Liquid Acrylic by FW.
Added with a Q-Tip
Picture
Picture
I combined two cards to add this layer.
The blue is a homemade acrylic ink spray.
Picture
Picture
Maybe I took this card too literarlly :-).
I went wild by dripping some
Liquitex neon green acrylic ink,
then blotting the page before it dried completely.
Picture
Picture
I think this was the most unexpected step.
I used alpha stencils to add the words "Give Art"
It seemed fitting and I loved making it the focal point.
Picture

Doodles and writing with a
Permaball pen

The final canvas.
I love the layers and the splatters
add a nice touch that I might not have
considered using without the deck.
Thanks for making this detour back to my blog. I'm so grateful to you all for the love and support around the Mixed Media Inspiration Deck™. It's been so delightful to get your emails and notes when you order your deck.

Want another a chance to win something from the list of other items we are featuring during the hop? Leave a comment below in response to this question: If you could give one MMID to a friend or loved one who would you give it to and why?

If I could give a MMID to a friend, it would be a fellow Art Journalist, Shaunda D that I craft with. I love her style and journals!

I would gift the MMID to my soul-sister, Ana who is a prolific scrapbooker and card maker. I think she would love and appreciate this wonderful inspiration tool.

PS. The canvas is wonderful! I didn't notice the drips until the end. It's a gorgeous piece and the sentiment fits perfectly!

I'd give a set to my mom ... she is an amazing artist and I know she would have so much fun with these cards! And I can think of a couple ways to use them to make art together even though many miles separate us ...

I would give it to a friend who doesn't make art so much any more to help maybe give her the spark back.

Another great creative journey using the MMID - loved the Go Wild step with the neon green!

If I could give an MMID to someone it would probably be my sister-in-law, who is always saying she wishes she didn't plan everything in advance, and that she could just let go a bit - I think it would be a great way for her to do that.

Thanks again for great hopping - looking forward to Stephanie on the 10th.

I have a friend who is still mourning her DH's passing and is finding it difficult to get back into any kind of creative play. As soon as I saw the MMID in action I just knew it was the perfect Christmas gift for her.

I will be seeing her this coming weekend...with other artsy friends. I have already ordered decks of each of us so we can play. Keeping my fingers crossed that they will get here in time!!!!

Ooops...forgot to say how much I really love how the MMID worked to take a so-so background into a super piece of crafty goodness!!

At first, I thought...12 cards? That would make a mess, but I was wrong, this came out really good! LOVE IT! Love how it all came together. TFS

I'd give it to one of my cardmaking friends, who has been wanting to give art journaling a try.

Enjoying each and every post this week along the hop! I would love to give a set to my best friend of more than 25 years, Amy. She has been such a inspiration in my life over the years...and now art journaling is a passion we both share. MMID would be a perfect gift for Christmas or her upcoming birthday in January! :)

I would give it to my sweet tween friend who loves to play with my art supplies. I don't have a daughter so it is fun to play with her and make beautiful creations. I love her simplicity that comes with childhood. Inspiring. Thanks for a chance to win!

I'd give a deck to my friend Anne. Extremely talented, she's taken a sidestep to support her husband through cancer. She's lost her mojo, needs to play and enjoy.

If I could give a MMID to a friend, it would be Courtney Ellis. Courtney is a former student of mine whom I'm introduced to art journaling when she was going through a very difficult time. Starting to art journal put her on the path to healing, and she's still journaling today.

To Karry, my nephew's wife. She's a beautiful creative person who is VERY busy with school at the moment. Once things settle down I think this would be a lovely gift to encourage her to get back into creating again.

I have a very creative friend, in her 80's and with Parkinson's disease, who is still painting. Because of her medications she often gets stuck for inspiration. A MMID would certainly help her out.

I watched the YouTube video of the cards being used. What a great idea. Makes you want to make a buch if backgrounds just to use the deck. Thanks for helping us blank page people out.

I would give one of your MMID to my friend (former neighbor). I encouraged her to pursue paper arts and your inspiration deck would be such a wonderful gift to her. She is always looking for new techniques and ways to be inspired and I know she would love to use the MMID to jumpstart her art projects.

I would give the Deck to my dear friend who is going through a divorce. She is extremely creative but hasn't lifted a pen or a brush for months now. Your amazing Deck might be just the kick she needs to re-inspire her back to the artist I know she is inside.
THank you for this chance!

I would buy two sets of MMID and give one to my daughter and the other to my granddaughter. My Daughter is very artistic and MMID would be just the prompt she needs to explore that part of her life. She has given so much to others and her spirit yearns to be released so it can tend to her. I know that MMID would aid in that spiritual release.

I go to visit my family for 6 weeks each summer, my granddaughter and i work at the table in the basement and just create. Giving her MMID would enhance our time together as we deal cards to each other and spend quality time working in our journals.

I would give it to my scrapbooking buddy. Like me, sometimes she gets stuck at the starting point. We all need some type of prompt to get over the hump....textilerecycler@yahoo(dot)com

I love this deck and I would give a deck to my new daughter-in-law who is just starting to get interested in art!!!

Suzanne R

If I could give a MMID to anyone it would be a dear artist friend who is an INCREDIBLE artist in the truest sense of the word. As I am starting with enjoying the freedom of art journaling, she has been most encouraging and appreciative of the fun backgrounds I have done in my journal. She now would like to try the fun. This would make it easy for her to get started without all the HOURS I have spent on YT (which I wouldn't trade for anything btw! ;)

Thanks for the chance to win and for compiling such an amazing deck! Merry Christmas to you and all the blog hoppers - great HOP!!
Suzanne :)
